Estudi\u00f3 Inform\u00e1tica en la <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.uni-oldenburg.de\/\" target=\"_blank\">Universidad de Oldenburgo<\/a> (Alemania), donde se licenci\u00f3 en 1993. Posteriormente, trabaj\u00f3 como investigador HCM\/TMR en el <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dia.fi.upm.es\/\" target=\"_blank\">Departamento de Inteligencia Artificial<\/a> de la <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.upm.es\/\" target=\"_blank\">Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Madrid<\/a>, donde obtuve el t\u00edtulo de Doctor en 1997. Seguidamente, se incorpor\u00f3 a la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, donde dirige el Grupo de Inteligencia Artificial desde su creaci\u00f3n en 1999. Ha sido investigador principal de numerosos proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n&nbsp;con financiaci\u00f3n regional, nacional y europea, en el \u00e1rea de los sistemas software avanzados. Es autor de m\u00e1s de 200 art\u00edculos cient\u00edficos centrados en t\u00e9cnicas de Inteligencia Artificial, con aplicaciones a problemas del sector sanitario, la gesti\u00f3n del transporte, o las redes el\u00e9ctricas inteligentes. En la actualidad, su trabajo se centra en los Sistemas Multiagente y la Web Sem\u00e1ntica.&nbsp; Es coeditor de m\u00e1s de 20 libros, actas, y n\u00fameros especiales de revistas internacionales. Pertenece al comit\u00e9 ejecutivo de la Fundaci\u00f3n Internacional para los Agentes Aut\u00f3nomos y los Sistemas Multiagente (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aamas-conference.org\/\">IFAAMAS<\/a>), y es miembro del <em>Steering Committee<\/em> del Simposio Anual ACM sobre Inform\u00e1tica Aplicada (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.acm.org\/conferences\/sac\/\">SAC<\/a>). Ha sido el <em>Chair <\/em>de la <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.agreement-technologies.eu\">Acci\u00f3n COST sobre <em>Agreement Technologies<\/em><\/a>, y fue co-fundador y primer presidente de la Asociaci\u00f3n Europea para los Sistemas Multiagente (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.euramas.org\/\">EURAMAS<\/a>), que organiza las ediciones anuales del Workhop Europeo para los Sistemas Multiagente (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.euramas.org\/doku.php?id=eumas\" target=\"_blank\">EUMAS<\/a>) y la Escuela de Verano sobre Sistemas de Agentes (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.euramas.org\/doku.php\/easss\">EASSS<\/a>). The next generation of these applications will be based on software agents to which increasingly complex tasks can be delegated, and which interact with each other in sophisticated ways so as to forge agreements in the interest of their human users. The sandbox of technologies supporting this vision is the subject of this volume. It summarises the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action project on AT, during which approximately 200 researchers from 25 European countries, along with eight institutions from non-COST countries, cooperated as part of a number of working groups. The book is the first one to provide a comprehensive overview of the emerging field of Agreement Technologies, written and coordinated by the leading researchers in the field.
